Metal awnings can even be used over doors and windows to protect the windows.

Metal awnings, although durable can succumb to rust and become and eyesore or even dangerous when metal awnings are not treated with a rust protector. When metal is exposed to the elements all year long and is not removed through the winter months, as most metal awnings are not, they can become rusted easily in as little as two years.

What can you do to prevent the metal awning from rusting? Consider using an awning cover through the winter months or ensuring that the awning is treated with some kind of rust protection. When choosing the metal awning, choose a metal that can resist rust and will fare well in the outdoors after being exposed to the elements.

Metal awnings also become very hot through the summer months, although they can protect the area from the sun, all components of the awning should be kept out of reach to ensure that no one becomes burned from the awning. It should be placed at least two feet above where the family members are able to reach to fare the best on the patio or above doors.
